Re: MSFT Adding Thin Client Features

Here's a couple more clips I found on Microsoft's website that are pretty interesting.

First, it's very clear that MSFT acknowledges CTXS input for Window 2000 Server. That's a very good sign. But they never really answered the question.

Secondly, the bottom clip is about as much, "marketing," support Microsoft gives Citrix per their agreement. It's not much and a lot of Citrix Solution Providers have clearly complained. But like I said previously, the ending of their so-called marketing agreement means almost nothing to Citrix and should not be viewed as a negative.

Q: How do you expect Citrix to be affected by Windows 2000 Server?

A: Citrix has worked closely with Microsoft in the development of both Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server and Terminal Services for Windows 2000 Server.

Q: Isn't Microsoft going to include all of the Citrix value-added features so that customers will no longer have an incentive to get MetaFrame?

A: It is true that Terminal Services for Windows 2000 Server will include some features of the current Citrix MetaFrame product. However, MetaFrame has many additional features that will continue to make it a valuable add-on for Terminal Services customers. There will be a new version of MetaFrame for Windows 2000 Server; contact Citrix for more information on this product at citrix.com

At this point, I think we will just have to wait and see what MSFT includes. Even if they do add features they may be buggy or inferior to CTXS. The most important feature of MetaFrame may be load sharing and I suspect Windows 2000 will include some form of this. The DOJ will be less likely to respond to a company like CTXS that few in the public have heard of (compared to Netscape.) Personally, I think the DOJ is mostly interested in publicity.
