BT<BT.L>to offer free Internet access - paper LONDON, May 23 (Reuters) - British Telecommunications Plc <BT.L> is poised to offer free access to the Internet with no call charges, the Sunday Telegraph said. The paper said BT was in talks with OFTEL, the UK telecoms watchdog, about the plan. Scores of companies, including Dixons Group Plc's <DXNS.L> Freeserve, offer no monthly fee for customers to access the Internet from their computers. But Web-surfers still pay local call charges when connecting to the Internet. Under the plan, BT would offer a freephone number with only a marginal increase in monthly rental charges, the paper said. A BT spokesman declined to confirm the report, but said BT is considering how customers could access the Internet. "It is no secret that we are looking at different ways of paying for access to the Internet," a BT spokesman said. Freeserve, launched last September, has quickly become Britain's largest Internet service provider by offering no monthly fees. It has more than one million users. Other companies, such as America Online Inc. <AOL.N> -- Britain's second largest Internet service provider -- charge a monthly fee for access, on top of any local call charges. However, there has been speculation that AOL is harbouring plans to offer Internet access through a freephone number. 2MAR$

Jacalyn, Great info. keeps coming in on X-Stream from you and Jeff etc.. when X-Stream had that big jump at the end of the day on Friday it must have been a jolt for Shorters.!!! Look out Monday.?? All we need is a News Release from X-Stream to set it on fire, most of their 1.9 million shares in their float I would say is not for sale.!! XSNI's "Quite Period" should soon be over.!!!If X-Stream can jump a couple of weeks ago from US$2.50/sh. to US$6.75/sh. on no news where could they jump on good News.???
