toby...it's obvious you miss the point.."an estimate of the future" is what the market demands....future as in direction of the company...if you are an ardent follower of dell, quote to me the date of the last major announcement by dell....ibm deal, nashville plant...and what do they mean....look at the text of recent appearances by gerstner and platt, what did they say to move the market????

nothing to do with earnings, nothing to do with litigation, everything to do with perception....the stock market reflects in a stock price its confidence in the company and its management to deliver to the market what the market perceives. dell earnings stellar, but not enough "gloating" by dell management, only defense of the obvious....anyone who honestly believes that a companies performance is the sole component of a stock price action is only kidding themselves. why is ibm and hwp up on less than stellar earnings...honestly answer what i pose and you will grasp my meaning..
