Microvision Adds Patents to Growing Portfolio

BOTHELL, Wash., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Microvision, Inc.
(Nasdaq: MVIS, MVISW) today announced that the United States Patent Office has
issued one new patent and allowed two others surrounding the company's Virtual
Retinal Display(TM) (VRD(TM)) technology and related scanning technology.
The company also announced that it has secured exclusive rights, through a
license with Stanford University's Office of Technology Licensing, to one
issued patent and two pending patent applications relating to the design and
fabrication of novel micro electro-mechanical (MEMs) devices. The
newly-licensed patents and applications describe proprietary techniques for
building optical devices using MEMs scanners and novel approaches to
integrating electrical structures into MEMs devices. The Stanford patents
combined with MEMs patents previously licensed by Microvision cover a variety
of design approaches for both uniaxial and biaxial MEMs devices and
structures.
"In addition to our ongoing development of patented technology for
scanned-beam displays, imaging system and optical sensors, we are establishing
a strong proprietary position in MEMs technology," said Casey Tegreene,
Microvision's intellectual property counsel. "These rights are a powerful
addition to the company's growing portfolio of intellectual property (IP)."
"We are amassing a technology base that is increasingly attractive to a
number of existing and potential customers interested not only in advanced
electronic displays but in all forms of electronic and digital imaging," added
Will McAllister, Microvision's Vice President of Marketing.
With the newly issued patents, licenses and patent applications,
Microvision now holds exclusive rights to 15 issued patents and 42 pending
U.S. patent applications. Additionally, Microvision holds exclusive rights to
a number of non-U.S. patent applications.
The company's heavily-patented Virtual Retinal Display(TM) (VRD(TM))
technology promises unprecedented performance in personal display for
aerospace, defense, medical and industrial customers, and affordable
micro-display solutions for consumer products.
