Some of us live in climates inhospitable to tomato growing, Del, like me, for example. I have very little actual earth in my yard, which is carved out of sort of a mountainside. I can grow drought-resistant flowers, but tomatoes would be rather difficult. However, the local solution to having them still warm from the sun is to buy very wonderful luscious ones at the produce market and let them sit in a basket in a window while the hot rays warm them up. Interestingly, almost 40% of Americans do grow their own tomatoes, which seems awfully high to me. But obviously I am hopelessly urban.
