James, I never implied that hi-end desktops will be given away for free, but PC - Personal Computers will. The majority of boxmakers until now earned most of their earnings from PC's and not work station or high end desktops/laptops.

My point is that those assemblers will:

1. have lower profit margin and profit growth
2. will migrate to higher desktops/workstation/servers etc. hurting those in this business now.

As to MSFT forget Set-tops/Net handhelds and the likes - it is an open market there including IBM, HWP, SUNW-Java, and even 3Com - with their latest palm.

My main point is that Win NT/Win 2000 will not have the anticipated growth due to endorsement by the big 3 of Java, Linux and Merced from Intel. Therefore IMHO MSFT earnings growth will suffer and so it's stock price.

In any case thanks you for your remarks.
