I have said why I think that legalization would be a mistake. Is cancer bad? But not everyone gets it, and some people survive it.God only knows why they have more churches per capita, but maybe it is just the proliferation of wedding chapels. Why do people from privileged backgrounds end up strung out at the Betty Ford clinic? 'Cause they are self- indulgent jerks? Why are there some businesses left in the inner city, despite the high crime rate?...Besides, most of the brothels are out in the desert...If you want less of something, you raise the costs. One way to do so is to criminalize it...My points about the development of new strains of STDs and the increase in pregnancy that went along with the wide- spread availability of contraception should at least caution one against the confident assertion that even the public health hazard is better controlled by legalization...Anyway, I am sorry that it is so difficult to move the ball on this one...
