May 26, 1999 06:01 AM
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 1999--

Siemens ElectroCom Using Cutting-Edge OC-3 Technology To Ensure Network Connectivity Between Campus Buildings

WinStar Communications Inc. WCII today announced that Siemens ElectroCom L.P., an operating company of Siemens Corporation, has deployed WinStar's recently launched OC-3 (155 mbps) point-to-point service. WinStar is the first communications company to offer fixed wireless broadband OC-3 service to its customers.

Siemens ElectroCom is utilizing this cutting-edge technology to deploy a data and voice connection between its campus buildings, ensuring continuous network connectivity. The Arlington, Texas-based company uses WinStar's point-to-point connections to support e-mail correspondence as well as a variety of other business functions, including purchasing and inventory control.

The advanced, high-capacity, high-speed OC-3 radios - which operate in the 38 GHz frequency - deliver ATM, SONET and Fast Ethernet traffic over WinStar's Wireless Fiber(SM) network. They are designed to support high-capacity data, Internet and video applications, as well as traditional voice services. The service can be integrated into Wide Area Networks (WANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and Corporate Campus environments, providing connectivity for private networks.

"Reliable communications and continuous access to corporate data are critical success factors for any business," said Jody Kennedy, chief information officer of Siemens ElectroCom. "The deployment of OC-3 radios allows us to build diversity into our network and provides 24x7 connectivity for all of our campus buildings."

"We are pleased that Siemens ElectroCom is our first customer for OC-3 service," said Nathan Kantor, WinStar's president and chief operating officer. "Providing a wide range of innovative, high-capacity broadband Wireless Fiber services illustrates our ability to help businesses solve their complex communications problems."
