There is no empirical evidence to support that opinion. Several studies have been conducted over the past decade attempting to correlate past performance with future performance, and none have shown any relationship. There are a great number of companies that have had years of outstanding performance that are followed by years of poor performance, such as Kodak, Westinghouse/CBS, Motorola, Woolworth/Venator, KMart, DEC, et. al.
