If it were the truth, then DVD would be selling as many copies as VHS. It wouldn't have taken 5 or more years for CD format to become the mainstream format. The RIO would have sold well over 2-3 million (hasn't come close). And, who would be watching a regular TV....go buy an HDTV. The people you are referring to are early adopters. And compared to the mainstream market they are very small in size. That range of consumers has so far been demonstrated by the sales of RIO and comparable devices. And, before we start with paying "premium", lets not forget that by Christmas, these products will not be demanding "premiums." Competition will have already dictated these devices will not demand "premiums." And as technology grows, the time period for "premiums" have shrunk. DVD, MP3 players, & video cards are a good example. While VCR's commanded high prices for quite some time, you can pick up a new DVD (which hasn't been out that long) for relatively cheap....not that $600 or $700 you'd be expecting to pay for a VCR when it was in it's youth. The RIO device and comparable players have dropped in price by ~20% in their first 6 months of introduction. When you're at the price level they now are, there isn't much room for "premium" unless you want to suggest a handheld device that plays CDs, DVDs, EPAC, MP3 & other formats. Only then would a "premium" be allowable and that would be because of product differentiation. Before making damning comments of another and suggesting arrogantly that "you know all" at least posts some facts that suggest you're correct. In closing, I'd suggest a few simple economics classes.
