If they're selling covered calls, it's for income, and/or, to provide a cushion for a decline, or lower their cost basis, isn't it? They don't feel the underlying stock is likely to exceed the strike by an amount sufficient to cause execution, yes? If that's true, why not wait awhile before establishing a long position? Unless someone thinks they know more than the seller, that is.
