Samsung Aerospace Industries Develops Polymide Tapes for Rambus DRAMs
May 28, 1999 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Aerospace Industries Ltd. has developed the technology for
producing polymide tapes, a key component of Rambus dynamic random access memory
(DRAM) chips.

According to company officials, it has agreed to supply the polymide tapes to Germany's
Siemens AG and is currently in talks with Intel Corp. and Taiwan's ASE.

The company said it implemented high precision tooling and fine pattern etching technologies to
develop the tapes. The tapes are part of ball grid arrays (BGAs), which are used in making
Rambus DRAMs.

As of now, only three Japanese firms hold this technology, marking Samsung the fourth company
to develop polymide tapes.

Samsung is currently the leader of the world's lead on chip (LOC) market.

Uncle, think of RMBS like a US bond - when the markets are dumping, investors flock to the safety of RMBS and vice versa. (gg)
