Woooooo, you've hit it right on the target. "Art" does, and has always done, send a Message. It has a point: sheer beauty, religious/politcal propaganda, social critisism. Pugs's "art" has no "point", it's no more than an extension of his ego. Many artists are even more revolting than Pugs, as people, difficult as this may be to imagine. Talent, and successful expression, are everything. Pugs's efforts suck.

Any opinions from the educated crowd??? Not sure if me making a chalk drawing in sixth grade makes me "educated" compared to your fifth grade finger painting, but that never stopped me before... (g) I recall being astounded by the girls in fourth grade who could draw lifelike horses. In general, I've always been impressed by people who could do things I could not. To me, anyone who can draw even marginally well appears to be an artist. However, intuitively I know they are not. The reason I say this is that, as a programmer, when I see shoddy programming it bothers me. Therefore, it seems logical that people trained in art must feel the same when they see shoddy artwork. The problem with the statement "everyone is an artist" is that if makes the word "artist" unnecessary. It's like saying "everyone is tall". Much like you can't be tall unless there are short people, you can't be an artist unless there are people who are not. I suppose you could redefine artist to mean "anyone who creates something", but I presume that's not the type of artist we are talking about here. Rather, we are defining artist as someone who excels at creating something that stirs the soul. That being said, how about them Knicks?! - Jeff
