Building with locally available materials and local labour makes more sense than shipping in something manufactured from outside ... i've done a little building due west of Belize and not that far away - cement block and corrugated metal are cheap and effective, local masons are highly skilled and do a lot of work for the money ... if you want to get fancy you put in a false ceiling to keep the mid-day heat out ... the whole thing there is to keep the heat, the bugs, and the wind out ..... hard to see how anybody could improve on existing systems, imho ... but then this is not Belize, either.
