I suppose that c/c++ has already been extended by Intel/HP/Microsoft/others to provide things like statements in the source to cause prefetching and movement of cache lines in the memory hierarchy. There probably are others. I hadn't thought of this until you asked. I just finished watching The Wild Bunch on video and I can't get my mind focused yet. Maybe I'll reply again later.
