John,

I'm not belittling IBM as a whole, just their PC business. The have a tremendous services business, and I assume they make money on all their other businesess, since they've lost so much on the PC business.

They created the PC, had virtually 100% share, and now have under 10%. And their share is going down. They control nothing with respect to the future direction of the PC -- not any of the hardware or software.

If their other businesses had performed as well as their PC business, they would not have been a 12-bagger since 1993. Maybe a 1.2 bagger.

Dave

p.s. I don't have the time to look back into their stock price since the 80's, but clearly you're selecting a timeframe advantageous to making them look "successful". If memory serves, I believe they're something like a 2-bagger since the mid-80s or so (I may be wrong about that, though). Certainly the friends who work there are terribly excited about the way their money has been "dead" since they started their in the early 80's.
