I showed your post to Chris, who is, as you may recall, an expert on sewage treatment and water purification, and he agreed with the guy who installed your septic field.

Bacteria are a component of an activated sludge system, he says, but a septic tank is a long slow process, and there is enough bacteria in the sewage to degrade it.

I would be interested in reading anything you have to say about septic tanks and seepage fields. We have to have have a new tank put in, and work on the field, soon. It would be nice to have some idea what was going to happen. I would enjoy talking knowledgeably to the septic guy, too....
