The fact that they are "associated" with addiction OR dependence does not touch my querulousness about raising nicotine to the same level as proscribed drugs. And if it were at the same level, why not ban it? As I said, thin science that does not jibe with my personal experience, including the experience of a number of friends and relatives who have quit without special aids, and, I would add, without the kind of withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin withdrawal. This group includes my wife, my mother, a grandmother, a brother, and a number of other friends and remoter relatives....

The one thing I'll contest here is the addictive nature of tetrahydrocannabinol. Nicotine and morphine are proven addictive. Granted, anandamide as an endogenous cannabinoid is a recent discovery, but a good strong link between marijuana and physical addiction remains a matter of controversy.
