Obviously it would be a disaster for Rambus if this blows up, but other than it bruising the egoes at folks at Intel it may not be a big deal at all.

Maybe you should wait until K7 shows up to make this judgement?

They're not wondering all over the board, it's only 800MHz from the RIMMs to the Memory Controller. That could be a very short distance.

As I stated, I believe all these problems have already been solved by Intel.

By solved, I mean complete SOLUTIONS - Chip set, Motherboard layout, etc.

The issue now is one of performance.

As for your suggestion, mounting the RAMBUS chips on a SLOT card won't work because the RDRAM CONTROLLER is in the CHip Set !

However, my intuition is telling me that Intel will be moving the DRDRAM controller on to the CPU in the very near future - as indicated in the upcoming Timna. Then, your suggestion will work.

This will achieve the reduced latency and deliver the performance "promised" by the DRDRAM approach.
