Silicom Enters the Home Phoneline Network Market Introducing Two Powerful, Unique and Simple Home Network products for USB and CardBus PCMCIA equipped PCs Kfar-Sava, ISRAEL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 1999--Silicom Ltd. (NASDAQ: SILCF - news) today announced its new Home Network product line which uses existing phone lines to allow multiple-PC households to share Internet access, printers, scanners, files, applications and games. The Silicom USB Home Phoneline Network adapter (U2P) is the first product to offer a true ''plug and play'' home phoneline connection. It plugs directly into the USB port of the computer and eliminates the need to open the PC when adding a phoneline network connection. The Silicom 1/10/100Mbps Home Phoneline / Fast Ethernet CardBus PC Card (CBFP) is the first PCMCIA card to support Home Phoneline networks. Using this 2-in-1 multi-function product, the portable computer user is able to connect to the corporate 10/100Mbps Ethernet local area network at work, and continue using the same PC Card at home to connect to the home phoneline network. The CBFP plugs into any Type II CardBus slot to offer the ideal flexibility in network connectivity to the portable computer user. ''Home networking is a very exciting area for Silicom,'' said Avi Eizenman, president and CEO of Silicom. ''According to various market research studies, more than 19 million homes will have multiple PCs this year. In 2003, the number is expected to reach 55 million, and 35% of these homes are expected to use home networking. Silicom is at an excellent position to capitalize on its twelve years of networking and Integrated Circuits design expertise to introduce unique and innovative products for this huge potential market''. Both new products are based on the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) 1.0 industry specifications. The U2P and CBFP are the basic building blocks of a fast home network, providing a bandwidth of up to 1Mbps across existing phone wiring, which is powerful enough for most of today's home PC applications. ''The HomePNA technical specification supports data transmission across existing home phone wires, without interfering with standard phones, modems or fax machines,'' said David Hendel, VP Research and Development at Silicom. ''By incorporating two RJ-11 connectors (one equipped with a pass-through filter) into each of the two new products, users can make and receive telephone calls, or use a modem to dial out to the Internet, while simultaneously sharing files or peripherals and playing multi-player games. Additionally, both products are compatible with emerging, fast Internet access specifications, such as DSL and cable modems for even higher bandwidth shared Internet access performance in the future.'' Silicom Ltd. is a leading provider of high performance connectivity solutions. The Company offers a broad line of single and multi-function USB, PC Card and CardBus products with support for Home networking, Fast Ethernet, Ethernet, Token Ring, 56Kbps modem, USB and RS-232.
