"one of [the Nazi party's] first acts was to disarm the populace"

would handguns have saved the jews, gypsies and other victims?

regards

I am glad there is a Canada as it gives all the cowards in the US a place to run to when their nation calls.

I'm assuming you have the Vietnam era 'tourists' in mind when you posted. I worked with one of these people for a few years back in the sixties. This person was a decent sort of guy who worked hard and took good care of his family. Nothing was ever mentioned about his decision to 'visit' Canada, but we assumed a 'bullet allergy' had something to do with it. When these 'guests' were pardoned, he decided to return. We missed having him around.

An observation about Canadian and U.S. gun control. The people in Canada who oppose the measures we're taking in this area seem to be upset about the inconvenience and cost of the measures, and not concerned at all about protecting themselves and their property from malevolent government(s) or individuals. I'm only observing from across the border, but it seems, in the U.S., people opposing gun control are much more concerned about state tyranny and crime.

I wasn't aware that Memorial Day was about remembering the sacrifices made by those who served until reading today's posts. In Canada, we celebrate Rememberance Day, on November 11th, the day the World War One ended. Our veterans, all very old men by now, could be seen selling poppies at this time. Over the years, we see fewer and fewer of them. Fortunately, many places now invite them indoors so they no longer must face the November weather. (Canada gets cold!)

One BIG difference though: In Canada, we don't have a general holiday. Banks, government, posties, and schools close, but population at large, it's business as usual. How sad we forget.

Cheers, PW.

JFD, OT At least up here kids don't get a hold of guns and play video games, for real. I was just trying to explain that ordinary citizens in Canada don't carry guns or have them at home. As there are not many guns around, kids or even adults can't use them to settle scores. Instead, they may have to resort to some fist fights. Maybe end of using knives instead of guns in serious cases. Not too many people get hurt this way in comparison to guns.
My comments were not any disrespect to those that have served in armies and I don't comprehend how you could make that connection. I want them to have guns, of course! The police should also be well armed.
Just my thoughts---with only a limited knowledge of the US rights etc.

Not only did the Nazi Party ban gun ownership, but they also instituted a National Health Plan & were diverted huge amounts of taxpayer monies in to public funding of the arts, museums, and the such

- anyway, the geniuses at Microsoft who roll out one great product after another but wise up & learn that Socialists are not their friends

I served, I went, but wish I would have stayed and went to Canada. I assume that if we all would have done that, 500,000 lives saved and results would probably be the same as they are today.
