hey billy, this particular problem seems to be very popular lately! we've been discussing it a lot recently. but obviously you missed all that. am i right? long story short, billy, make sure that all other apps are shut down so that nothing is running when you defrag. just leave 'explorer' running. then try it and everything should be fine. btw, you can try searching this subject only by entering 'defrag' in the search field at the bottom of the page. i did not try it, but i'll bet a lot of the recent posts i just alluded to will pop up. good luck! :) mark

In addition to Mark's post... If you want to find out what programs are running, hit <CTRL>+<ALT>+<DEL> at the same time and close all programs in the task manager except for Explorer. At that point, try running Scandisk again...you should have no difficulties. Rich
