In honor of Memorial Day, I will now mention some of the things which unite most Americans. The "we" is meant to indicate "most Americans":
1.)We believe in liberal democracy, a government ultimately responsible to the people, but representative, and protective of certain minority rights;
2.)We believe in civil liberties, which allows us to exercise our rights as citizens,and to protect our rights as minorities;
3.)We believe in allowing people an opportunity to develop their talents and pursue their goals without the minute direction of government;
4.)We believe in integrating minorities, insofar as they are amenable, into the fabric of American life;
5.)We believe that differences of religion and ethnicity should be accepted, and that they do not disqualify people from being full citizens;
6.)We believe that there should be "wise stewardship" over our natural resources;
7.)We believe that educational opportunities should be improved for all of the nation's children, not only those in affluent suburbs, or with the means to go to private schools;
8.)We believe that the United States has a unique role to play in the world, and should exercise its power wisely;
9.)We believe that most of the wars fought by our forces have been justified, and that the people who have sacrificed in these conflicts are worthy of honor;
10.)We believe we are fortunate to be Americans...

Political disagreement ordinarily revolves around deciding:
1.)The relative weight to give "the people" or "the government";
2.)At what point a civil liberties claim conflicts with legitimate social interests;
3.)How free enterprise ought to be;
4.)What means are the most likely to lead to integration, and which to continue separation;
5.)How many unassimilated immigrants the cities can absorb without social upheaval;
6.)What constitutes "wise stewardship";
7.)How to improve the schools;
8.)What constitutes the "wise exercise of power";
9.)How suspicious are the circumstances of some of our wars;
10.)Why we are fortunate to be Americans...

These areas of disagreement are not always Dem/Rep, or even Liberal/Conservative. Sometimes they are more convoluted. Also, the list is not exhaustive...Still, God bless America...
