Electronic News' article is out -- with precious little more verifiable info.

"Repeated calls to IBM last week were not returned by press time."

"Rambus Inc. is sticking to its guns. Subodh Toprani, vice president of Rambus' Logic Products division, said the company has no reason to talk to OEMs about what DRAMs they are buying and actually expects to see SDRAM systems well through the year 2000 along with Rambus systems on the market.

"Rambus is too small to work directly with the entire industry, we leave that up to Intel," Toprani said. He added that the company knows of OEMs that will have Rambus systems out this year.

A spokeswoman for Intel said the company could not confirm that IBM has decided not to use Rambus DRAM. She said that there are other chipset choices besides Intel that could be used if IBM wanted to use PC-133. Intel continues to stand behind direct Rambus DRAM and still believes that is has more headroom than PC-133 and other competing technologies, she added."
