And quoting from memory, only 14 or 15 of the Nifty Fifty were able to beat the market over the long haul (1972 to 1997). Of the remaining 35 or so that failed, most were trading at very high P/E (like Polaroid, Disney, McDonald's etc.) just before the 73-74 bear took over.

That ought to be a lesson to those who are chasing today's high P/E stocks. However, I am absolutely certain that they won't learn it!
