You didn't read it if you think the FPU was "SLOWEST", you just looked at the FPUMark "pictures". Read the article.

I'll give you Quake with the TNT2. If the K7 gets popular, as many think it will, all TNT2 cards have to do is design a driver taking advantage of the K7's 3DNow!. If the test had been run with the everpopular Voodoo3 (best selling graphics card on the market), which is very optimized for 3DNow!, instead of barely lagging PIII, the K7 would have been far ahead.

Note that business applications using the disk drive (which happened to be the very same 7200 RPM IBM Deskstar I have in my home PC) were 25% faster with the K7.

Also note, and this is important, the tests were using 100 MHz memory for both processors... while the K7 (unlike any of Intel's line) can use 200 MHz memory as well. That would also boost its performance quite a bit.
