Benjamin, gloat all you want but I was doing DSL at 1.5mbs from my den before most people ever heard of DSL. Unfortunately, when their testing was done, the "phone company" found that ordinary residential customers wouldn't pay >$150 a month for DSL service and they removed their expensive high-end local routers. Now I'm too far from the nearest "switch" for ADSL so I have to settle for ISDN (DirecTV is not much of an option and the local cable guys aren't offering anything). Never trust the phone company.

re: "I've had mine for what seems like a decade now, and it's great!" You have something of a distorted sense of time. DSL was not available a decade ago. I believe that the first commercial DSL MODEM is less than half that old and local service in major metropolitan areas has been available for less than two years. DSL market penetration thusfar is in the single-digit percentages.

Oh .. one more thing .. I hope that you have a firewall. The first week I was on DSL I discovered that I was able to access many of my neighbor's disk drives and printers. If you have an in-house network, DSL presents something of a security problem.

Yah, almost as good as my cable mode.
