That article answered some of the questions I had. Apparently the Mead solution doesn't use CCD as the sensor. That's good because CCD has some strong limitations in producing high quality cameras. Nevertheless competitive technology has a big head start and the volume to keep costs down. The rule is that for a totally new technology to succeed, it has to offer a lot more than marginal improvement, and it has to solve a problem that is truly threatening the business model. To be a gorilla it also needs a large customer base. I have my doubts that Foveon cameras will ever be more than a niche product. I'm afraid there's no gorilla here, but it should help NSM bottom line somewhat.

Way to go Bob A Louie, good find. Reference to Mead as one who "...laid down the design
rules for etching millions of components onto a chip" may explain how it is that he can come now to create this apparently wonderful silicon film, and how he contributed to the birth of Intel to boot.
