Michael, When cable is clear, say at 4AM, it beats ADSL, but during the peak time that shared pipe cuts you way down. Some cable ISPs actually throttle their modems to 128K or 256K maximum. There is a brisk trade in re-programming of cable modems to max speed in some areas. I have ADSL and it is very good compared to cable in peak times, but not as good as cable at 4AM. In Toronto ADSL is beating cable in many areas, but it is limited as you cannot be more than a mile or so from the switch. It coexists on the same voice phone line and traps allow you to use each separately, so the extra phone line for the modem can be stopped making ADSL cost the same as analog(One line =$15 and unlimited 56K ISP=$25 ==$40, and ADSL is $40 here in Toronto. You can run servers etc as long as you do not use it for money they allow it. I/P lease stays as long as you are connected and with a dynamic site like www.dynip.com you can run your own web page etc on the system. They have reserved the right to surcharge you for over 5 gig per month downloaded, but I exceed that and they have not implemented it. Very nice to get a 50 meg file in less than 10 minutes. Bill Bill
