Sears Roebuck & Co (S) Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW)

SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC received a merchandise planning system contract from SEARS ROEBUCK & CO. Financial terms weren't disclosed. In a press release, Sun Microsystems said Sears will use Sun Enterprise servers and Solaris operating environment for the nationwide roll out of IBM's Makoro for Merchandise Planning software. Sun Microsystems said the combination of Sun systems running Makoro will "heighten" Sears ability to perform merchandise planning and forecast demand across store, regional and corporate levels. The system will also provides a close link between the financial planning process and the merchandise planning process, Sun Microsystems said. (Dow Jones)

Sears is also developing several integrated WEB sites. I wonder if SUNW's service division will be helping to integrate these sites into the overall merchandise planning software systems?

Has anybody heard of any other large retailers using IBM's Makoro for Merchandise Planning software?
