In college, I knew quite a few people who had been to boarding school, mostly in New England. They were under- supervised, over- indulged, and supercilious, and that was my opinion of the ones I liked...Most of them had an underlying sense of abandonment by their parents (especially if they were shipped off after divorce or re- marriage), which made them sympathetic. Some of them had an inbred snottiness that made you want to wipe the floor with their preppie butts...Almost all of them, nice or nasty, were superficial, perpetual braggarts, and habitual liars and sneaks, since these were the qualities by which they got along in boarding school. Of course, any sampling of this kind is limited...
