This is what is amazing to me, someone is going to get hurt with these kind of buyouts...You can just see it..like a huge coiled spring with tremendous tension in it...But Checkfree's business model, on the other hand, will shine in the long run..

The markets reacted not only to the impact on the bottom line of the companies involved, but to the somewhat questionable nature of the moves, say some analysts.

"ETrade paid an extraordinary amount of money for Telebank," says Mr. Marks. ETrade bid $1.8 billion in stock for a company that reported $41.7 million in revenue for the quarter ending March 31, 1999. "It's a questionable decision. There's not a lot of value there."

Tom,

I gotta tell you, I love the way you put all of this together into something so simple that an idiot like myself can understand. Thanks.

Anyone remember CKFR's announcement earlier this year about building a new facility in Norcross and hiring somewhere around 250 people? Well, if you're throwing around numbers, I'd bet that some of that money is going to go toward paying those new people. Assuming an average of 50K a year, you usually triple that to figure out what an employee really costs. So, for the first year, 250 new people are going to cost (250 * 50K * 3) = $37.5 million

Maybe another $10-$20 million will be used to build the facility and spend the rest on acquisitions or portal deals.
