Your observation is absurd. $250,000?? That's CHUMP CHANGE for a stock like this and is more suitable to a daytrader using margin. 1) MM's don't care if a stock is cheap or expensive....they execute orders for their clients. 2) Instead of someone going long, the "buy order" you saw could have just as easily have been someone covering a small portion of a short position. Then again, what you saw could also have been (and probably was) a late print of a seller's stock.
