"Additionally I had a nice conversation with a senior executive at ACTV yesterday. He tells me that the HITS integration is on schedule for internal release between mid June and early July. Once that is done, it has to be released to both TV Guide Interactive (TVGIA) and General Instruments (GIC) for their test phase. The integration has to under go bullet proof testing before any release to the general public. The people at TVGIA can't afford to release anything that could crash 2 million set top boxes (STB's). As I was told "It would mean their jobs." Even though ACTV uses only 13kb of software in the STB it must be tested as if it were a entirely new operating system. No one can afford to make any mistakes at this time. While this is understandable we must remember that all this testing takes time. My contact assures me that he is comfortable for a general release of the enhanced TV product by Labor Day. So it looks like a nice long summers wait before the full roll out. Realistically though we are only talking about 2-3 months, not a long time in the scheme of things. Another interesting thing to consider, The Box Music Network is being integrated into MTV's on-line properties. Does this mean that ACTV will be the interactive choice for MTV and its parent VIACOM?"
