Mike: I'm not seeing the panic yet that we need for a rally. All the threads are filled with people expecting a turnaround rally at any time now, yet the inets are bleeding a slow, painful death. Problem is, nobody has the money or the fortitude to buy. They're waiting for someone else to buy.

<< Maybe this weeks poor action is already discounting a rate hike, and possibly there will be a rally subsequent to the Federal Reserves action/inaction, >>

I believe the bond market has already factored in a hike, and will be displeased if the Fed doesn't act vigilant. My guess is that a .25 hike along with soothing comments from the Fed will spark a summer rally.

However, I believe the nets are in for further rough times. I love the broadband and telco infrastructure plays, but the pure "dot coms" are toast, IMO. I'm already pissed I covered SFE yesterday. I just hope it can rally back to the upper 60s soon.

MIKE

Michael,

The short interest as of 5/10/99 was very low. Does anyone have assess to updated information? With the recent action, I would guess it is back to the 5/10/99 level or probably higher. Just observing the increased short posts on this and the Yahoo board would indicate this is true. The intelligent shorts must be ready to protect their recent profits. SFE has good fundamental news recently[ICGE S.R. ex date of 6/14/99]. If I were short I would consider the possibility of loosing my new won profits in a short covering rally. Of course the overall internet picture will be the trigger either up or further down. Whatever happens in the internet stocks happens very quickly. We don't have to endure the slow drop over a prolonged period of time. It makes for huge buying opportunities like now and huge shorting opportunities like 5/10/99.
