Actually, QNTM is in the low end with BigFoot. It is probable that this may be part of the problem: SEG with U4, and perhaps even Conner or (who knows?) even Samsung shipping a few drives there.

This announcement is bad for the near term, but isn't so bad if you have a longer view. If pricing continues to be this bad, someone will fall by the wayside. SEG and QNTM probably have the most cash of any of the vendors. Samsung is investing heavily in their DRAM business, are they going to want to continue in another cutthroat business like drives where they aren't even in the top 5? Will Fujitsu keep up? WDC? Even though Maxtor cleaned up their balance sheet recently, they are pretty narrowly focused on the desktop, where pricing appears to be the worst. We shall see.

My guess: some serious consolidation in this sector begins sometime in the next 4-9 months.
