Eric,

<although this eliminates some of the problems of getting orders filled, it is more of a method for 'counter-momentum' traders, versus momentum traders>

Not necessarily. For example, if you look at a 1-min chart of AMZN's 13 point, 1-hour run yesterday, you can see 6 pullbacks that would have provided ample sellers very short term, allowing a sharp trader to grab up shares for the next surge.

I uploaded a GIF at my site showing the short pullbacks:

EricP: I think you make good points. It brings forward the reality of "scalp" trading in which one is held hostage to immediate fills at the inside market.

Perhaps "swing" trading offers a better alternative for the day trader. By trading on a longer time frame you have more room to execute orders within a range that provides a profitable strategy.

Let us not forget that many MM's tend to ignore preferencing from discount firms which also stacks the deck against you. Some of the systems coming to the forefront tend to offer the best of both worlds - immediate confirmations along with the accessibility to automated fill systems of MM's.

An example of which is deltatrader.com
