KHS: Those quotes that you claim are made by shorts are really no different from many of the quotes that longs pepper the threads with:

"The shorts are gonna get squeeeeezed"
"This stock is going to the moon"
"Intel will be a $200 stock before the end of 1999. Guaranteed."

One statement I take particular issue with:

Longs i do believe are more objective on these boards than shorts. Longs discuss, shorts create fear.

My personal experience, and that of other hedge funds that invest both long and short, is in fact the opposite. Any random short seller that actually believes that a statement on the SI thread could actually drive a stock down (particularly a stock with the kind of liquidity that Intel has) is highly misguided and won't be a short seller for very long. I've seen it work with one of the more illiquid issues, but only when the information supplied has been accurate.
