You own stock in companies that competes with you employer. And I'm sure that John Chambers owns stock in competitors.

What's really funny is ASND's competitors helped provide the capital to lead to their eventual demise. It doesnt get any better than that! I LOVE this country!!!

you could say that they were buying their own "security" because if CSCO did well at ASND's expense ASND would at least have a gain on the stock they held...FWIW...in this case Ascend had a win-win - have held their own and then some vis a vis Cisco AND have a big gain on the stock!
