Unfortunately, the delay in the G4 processor is combined by Apples tendency to drag its feet on processor speed. What I mean is Apple will delay bumping up processor speed so as to gain a larger profit even when faster processors are available. A traditional achilles heel this profit margin thing. The truth is that Apple computers are no longer faster than Wintel computers. They could be faster right now, but because of this margin obsession, they've lost yet another advantage.

Do you know this for sure?

I've always perceived the problem to be with getting the processors in a quantity large enough for integration into the line. Makes no sense to release faster boxes if you can't build enough of 'em to supply the demand. The specialty guys will always have them first to tempt us with them as they a) pay and charge you a premium for them and b) sell in pretty small quantities (and even at that they're often plagued by inventory shortages)...

Margin is one thing - a PR disaster quite another...
