This could be great news for 3dfx!!!

Assuming that Voodoo4 should be shipping by October (6-month product cycle), 3dfx could dominate the high-end during the Christmas season and Camino launch.

Sharkey makes a correction to his proposed shipping date on the NV-10:

<<NVIDIA NV10 Amendment
In yesterday's report on NVIDIA's NV10, I may have misled you when I stated that the chipset was going to be out by October of this year. The chip is due to sample to OEMs by October and will be 'out' (in terms of retail units) by Christmas or even later in January 2000. >>

Surprised? Of course not...

I suspect even January 2000 would be a little too generous. This is if everything comes along perfectly, and this is no re-spin of the TNT design. They have to create a whole geometry engine from scratch in addition to everything else they're doing and they have to get it right the first time. Then there's the matter of cramming all this and 4+ rendering pipes onto that little bitty die space. I think they're biting off more than they can chew.

So we've heard from 3dfx officials in interviews that the next "something" is September. NVIDIA is now pushed off until at least January. ATI and S4 will have pumped-up versions of their current chips due out by Christmas. These just look like enhancements to their old designs though. It appears 3dfx may be all alone as both technology and mindshare leader...if they can execute.
