Products and People Come Together as LONMARK Defines and Demonstrates the Latest in Open Interoperable Control Networking Solutions At Exciting Orlando Conference
The LONMARK(R) Interoperability Association is pleased to announce the success of its first joint System Integrator Conference and Spring LONMARK General Meeting held on May 25-26, 1999 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. Over 150 attendees from around the world participated in this event. The event kicked off on May 25 with the LONMARK Spring General Meeting and tabletop exhibit. The meeting provided a forum for members to hear from the staff of the Association regarding recent successes, new marketing programs and the newest LONMARK products available in the market today. An evening tabletop exhibit and reception provided a showcase for those products in a relaxed one-on-one environment. "The tabletop conference was hosted in the ideal business environment: plenty of food, wine, and potential customers," said Tom McAvoy of TA Engineering. "It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our AIMAX software, meet the leaders of the LONWORKS industry, and reaffirm our presence in the LONMARK community. The experience encouraged the type of classic business conversation that one would expect in your own office, rather than a trade show." Among the many exhibitors were Control Solutions, Douglas Lighting, Magnetek, and Echelon, all exhibiting the first LONMARK products verified to meet version 3.1 of the interoperability design guidelines. According to Brian Aikins of Douglas Lighting Controls, "Getting the LONMARK logo on our product was very important since LONMARK has now become a recognized and valued brand for open interoperable control devices." Information on all LONMARK products and a downloadable copy of the design guidelines can be obtained on-line in the Products section of www.lonmark.org. The LONMARK System Integrator Conference, held the following day on May 26, was a rousing success. The conference provided a forum for system integrators, equipment specifiers and consulting engineers to come up to speed on the use of open control networking architectures based on Echelon's LONWORKS(R). The conference opened with four impressive LONMARK case studies describing successful LONMARK installations around the world. Bogot Services described the multi-phase building automation project for the E.M. Dirksen Federal Courthouse in Chicago. M& E Sales, a Honeywell business, described their project at the Kansai Electric Power Company in China using Honeywell LONMARK Products. TAC presented an impressive project at the new Malmo University that included a fully integrated system combining lighting, HVAC, security, while Larson Gibbens described their work with the Warren Middle School in Kansas. These projects are representative of the many solutions LONMARK products are providing today. A compilation of these case studies and more will be included in the LONMARK Yearbook to be released in the fall of this year. Following the case studies, the conference featured presentations and tutorials from LONMARK members on specifying, designing, installing and configuring open multi-vendor LONWORKS control networks based on LONMARK products. "It was great to hear from other System Integrators out in the marketplace using LONMARK products," said Patrick Rossert of Bogot Services. "We are always interested to hear how they are doing business, the kind of solutions they have devised and the way they market themselves. It is an outstanding resource to have a forum to communicate with your peers." The LONMARK Interoperability Association is already planning the LONMARK 1999 Fall General Meeting. The meeting will be held on October 12, 1999 at the Amsterdam RAI, the day before the start of Echelon Corporation's LONWORLD 99 conference and exhibition.
