And therefore it is safer for the box maker. The box maker may be willing to ship K6-something if it's cheaper and has something to make it appealing. But Celeron has taken away the "cheaper" and K7 will take away the "appealing."

But seriously you are making the mistake of assuming that if K7 looks good relative to Intel on June 23 then they'll ship gadzillions of them. Problem is that they can't ramp that fast and every quarter Intel products get better. This time next year it will be K7 vs Willamette. So, on second thought, AMD should not build all those fabs.
