Not true at all. My non-tech friends laughed at me when I bought my Celeron, because it sounds so underpowered with the silly name and they know enough to know about the 128k cache but not enough to know it runs at full speed and is just as good as a Pentium II.

The box maker may be willing to ship K6-something if it's cheaper and has something to make it appealing. But Celeron has taken away the "cheaper" and K7 will take away the "appealing."

You could also argue it the other way around: Say the K7 performs very well... This could translate into an overall consumer opinion of 'Hey! AMD makes some pretty fast chips'. Then again, who knows?
