Yes.

The K7 - probably jacked up to 2.5 volts - will perhaps match the existing Pentium /// - faster on some tests, slower on others.

The AMD situation then becomes the usual - sell the K7 as a cheaper alternative.

Trouble is, the K7 will cost a LOT MORE than a Pentium /// - 184 sq. mm (vs. 122 for P3), new chip sets, new motherboards, new risks, etc.)

AMD will be back where they started from.
