Why do you think so? Isn't it natural human tendency to move towards and reward a
more efficient system? Witness DELL/GTW and CPQ/IBM/HP.

People are a social animal as a whole. They like to shop together and enjoy each other's company. Shopping is entertainement to so many people. Many go to shopping centers without even buying at times. This will not change.

I am not even sure e-commerce is a more efficient system as you are trying to state. The customer in a brick and mortar store does the fulfillment for the store. Not true in e-commerce. This also leaves out the individual delivery by a shipping company. This comparison will vary from product to product. Dell is a perfect example of a more efficient system due to the fact they manufacture to preference. Commodity items are a different story and let's not look at the usual suspects such as books, music and videos. How about a can of bug repellent? Might as well pick up batteries for the flashlight while you are at it and another cooler for more beer:-) Take these to the check out person who scans it and places it in a bag. That is more efficient than someone locating these individually, boxing, them, addressing them and having them shipped.

Just random thoughts;-)

The internet is very innefficient in satisfying many human wants/needs, like shopping and feeling/touching the goods. The internet will never do well in selling clothing or jewlry or shoes etc.. those items with so much image and emotion attached to them by people.
