Sorry "Margin" I though we were talking about a margin call not getting called to make good a short position ( which has never happened to me ) I have only shorted through Green Line and they are big enough that I can't Imagine them asking to cover a short position. They usually check to "see" if they can lend you the stock anyways.

Barb, while you are probably correct in saying that a margin call means you were "wrong"... did you know that with recent changes made at many houses an investor can spend no more than her buying power on Monday morning... see everyone of her holding go UP 1/4 point by the end of the day and then on Tuesday be faced with a house call??

It can and does happen. While true likely any time a person is "called" she is wrong, I think this situation (above) is outrageous and some idle lawyer should bring a class action against some of the larger houses this is happening at.
