Nice post, Donnie. I'm holding onto my DELL after agonizing a bit...take the long view, great company as Chuzz and others say, if stock hammered, why buy low sell low or buy high sell low or whatever combination that doesn't make sense. Don't want the inanities of market to push me into short-term foolish decisions. At the very least, holding thru traditional summer doldrums and a shift in market sentiment seems wise...if not just holding for the long-term, which was always my plan.

Here's a hug from me, anyway! I may not be Arthur, but...

Jill

I just got my Dell proxy and there are 2 proposals. First, to elect three directors. Second, increase the number of authorized shares of common stock from three billion to seven billion. There is a neat little brochure about their Fiscal 1999 in Review. And a flyer for shareholders - special offers dell dimension xps t550; inspiron 7000 a366lt; HP deskjet 882c; HP scanjet 4200Cse; home based bundle; and dell gear. Included in their Form 10K was their plan to open a manufacturing plant in Brazil in 2000 to sell to S. American countries.

but...u should be very careful telling folks to sell...it would be a shame if they listened and did it at 33.....then the stock moved to above 40...

I know Arthur opinions carry a fair bit of weight, but this cuts both ways. I sure I could find many posts (from influential posters) back at the beginning of February (Dell at 55) or just before the last earnings (Dell at 45), advising everyone to buy more dell. Why is Arthur's advice any different? It's just one man's opinion. Each of us has the responsibility to sort through the contrary information and opinions and make our own decisions.

Re: "dell is growing over 40% and cpq's fallout will be to dells advantage. "

IMO this is one of the most important realizations in valuating Dell at this point. It seems to me that a lot of the downgrades and resulting "stay away from Dell" recommendations are due to the premise that the Y2K buying from companies has slowed or stopped and Dell's forward looking earnings will be hurt. If all that is true and Dell can capture or fill that gap by gaining CPQ's fallout it would make all those "experts" WRONG! I hope.

A real pet peeve of mine is how these "experts" make a blanket statement without taking any other factors into consideration. Then it becomes some sort of unwritten law and everyone must sell because of course it's true! It's fact! it's knowledge! It's the unwritten law of investing! The only thing worst to me is that they actually get time value out of these musings till the real facts prove them wrong of course they have a good chunk of the fair minded investor's money by then. Excuse me for venting here!
