I missed the list. I was speaking generally and specifically to Cobalt about what really is problem, from my perspective, with people's attitudes towards not only lawyers, but the law and a system that attempts to bring justice into our lives.

I know who you are (sort of), so I wouldn't take something like from you as a bad reflection on you. (that was an awkward sentence) I might, however, consider that you could stand to look at the issue more closely to understand CB's reaction. And I took her reaction to be directed at the "jokes" and at the very bad rap that lawyers get rather than being directed at you as a person.

>>>>>1) I'm sorry - not my desire at all. I accept responsibility for being thoughtless.
2) This is one step beyond "sensitive". It's a selective rejection of other supportive things I said. Check your compass cuz you're off course.<<<<<

I won't accept any apology if you keep blaming me. You did something offensive, as you admit, and I was offended. That ought to be the end of it.

If you don't think I have the right to be offended, don't bother to apologize.

That's what I mean about the California way of doing things. No offense to the entire state of California. It's the subtle twist of the chain of responsibility, so that it's my fault or error or lapse for being offended by what you ought to know is offensive.

You have never known me to tell an ethnic joke. I don't, and I don't countenance them. I do tease about engineers, and I tease about lawyers, too. A week or two ago I was teasing about how there is nothing sadder than a lawyer trying to get wild and crazy, it's even sadder than an engineer or an accountant trying to get wild and crazy. But that's a far cry from accusing an entire profession of being liars, cheats and theives.

You know who knows and tells the most and best Mexican jokes?

That's right - ¡mexicanos! .... among other styles, there are long lists of jokes about el mexicano, el americano, and el ruso [the Mexican, the American, and the Russian] .... and the mexicano doesn't always win, it's about an even split ... some are very funny and right-on, and often quite topical .... i think i posted one way upthread about the mexicano, the tejano, and the cucaracha .. it's typical in a way ... Lord help those who cannot laugh at themselves.

That being said, i have no idea what you people are on about, it's just that your post was posted to the kidney thread .... cheers, all

I just posted this to Coby, telling I was posting it also to you--all on the public threads:

Now hear this, thread! I just messed up dreadfully on what promised to be a warm and enjoyable friendship through a morass of misunderstandings. It pains me to see it happen again so soon between people whom I like so very much.

It appears perfectly obvious that LRR meant his posting to be a source of amusement to Coby. There was no desire to hurt, I am quite sure.

It also appears that Coby did not hear LRR's apology with attempt at explanation as a proper apology.

That you both feel hurt should tell each of you that you care about each other, even in the amorphous world of cyberspace--otherwise, you would simply click past each other and ignore.

I am a relative newcomer to this thread, yet I have learned to cherish both of you and should miss both of you dreadfully if either of you were to leave the thread--or even to stop posting to each other. Your exchanges are often delightful to all of us. Little digs from idiots are as inevitable as invasions from the Ask God aliens; they are worthy of a click past.

I think that Lather is upset because he felt as though you were pointing a howitzer at him for posting what he thought would amuse you; I suspect he thought that, at worst, you'd respond with, "Sorry, but I'm not in the mood to find these quotes humorous." I think he feels hurt because he meant no harm. I think he is deeply hurt that you could ascribe malice to him about you.

So please don't go. Your thoughts are worth sharing and if you go off the DAR thread as well because of this Neocon person, you will be sorely missed.

Both you and LRR have fine minds that inspire the rest of us and give us joy. Who you are as a person is a joy. When there is ugly static, ignore it, as I do.

Do stay on "feelies" and if the topics of discussion pall, start a new one of interest to you.
