Any idae what is happening between aol and rnwk. these acquisitions seem to send mixed signals. depending on what there plans are, this could be a big boost to rnwk or it could be the end of aol promoting their software.

I don't see how that would fit into the aol strategy, but i was looking for an opinion

I couldn't agree with you more about the AOL-Netscape-(don't forget about)-Sun relationship. The free computers that AOL will give away to their new premium subscribers will have a non-Windows based operating system. This will be competition to MSFT anyway you look at it.

This simply means that if successful, AOL is the next MSFT in the making right in front of our eyes. These new innovations are just on the verge of being released.

Monday will be exciting IMO but the next several years will mean an explosive expansion time for AOL.

>> AOL seeks to help link the browser to the os.

I think YES. Every successive version of the Netscape browsers have looked more and more like operating systems. There is a long way to go before it is actually an operating system. But with each new release, we see a stronger word processor machine, and more and more options. It is not unlikely that near future browsers will have built in spreadsheet programs and quicken clones. These are all steps along the way of building the user interface portion of an OS. Good point Sam.

This fits in with the whole AOL-SUNW-NCSP scenario that I set out way back at:
